Instrument Rating

Elevate Your Skills, Expand Your Horizons

Earning your Instrument Rating is the next step toward becoming a confident, capable pilot. Our program utilizes the advanced avionics in the Pipistrel Alpha Trainer, giving you the perfect balance of a cost-effective platform and Technically Advanced Aircraft (TAA).

Why Choose Us?

Our instructors bring real-world IFR experience to every lesson, ensuring you don’t just pass a checkride – you gain the confidence to fly safely in challenging conditions. With our unique blend of modern aircraft and personalized instruction, you’ll be ready to take your flying to the next level.

Train Smarter

Modern Aircraft

The Pipistrel Alpha Trainer is equipped with advanced glass cockpit technology, helping you master IFR procedures in a safe, intuitive environment.

One-on-One Instruction

No group classes, no waiting. Your training is built around your schedule and learning pace, with a dedicated CFI who knows your flying.

Structured, Proven Curriculum

We use Sporty’s Instrument Rating Ground School paired with focused flight training, so every hour you spend on the ground or in the aircraft builds directly toward your checkride and beyond.

Let’s get instrument rated

Training Areas

  • Ground training covering regulations, safety, weather, air traffic control procedures, IFR navigation and approaches, use IFR en route and approach charts, crew resource management, and aeronautical decision making. We use the Sporty’s Instrument Rating Ground School.
  • Preflight preparation
  • Preflight procedures
  • Air traffic control clearances and procedures
  • Flight by reference to instruments
  • Navigation systems
  • Instrument approach procedures
  • Emergency operations
  • Postflight procedures

Eligibility Requirements

  • Hold at least a Private Pilot certificate
  • Read, speak, write, and understand the English language
  • Pass the FAA Instrument Rating written test
  • Pass the check ride with an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE)

Required Flight Training Time

  • 50 hours of PIC cross-country time. We can accumulate some portion of that during the training.
  • 40 hours of instrument flight instruction from a CFI, including a fun 250nm cross-country flight under IFR.

Cost Breakdown

A typical cost breakdown for a private pilot, assuming they will not require time-building to meet the 50 hours PIC cross-country requirement:

40 hours airplane rental @ $180/hr$7200
50 hours instruction (flight + ground) @ $80/hr$4000
Check ride with FAA Designated Pilot Examiner$1000
Supplies and Sporty’s Ground School$300
Total$12,500
